The 1982 Symposium

Who hasn't heard of the Symposium de la jeune peinture au Canada? This summer event, held every year in Baie-Saint-Paul, attracts thousands of both art lovers and simple onlookers who come to see creators at work and possibly talk with them.

It is interesting to remember that Vladimir Horik participated in the very first event which took place in 1982; but at that time, it was simply called Le Symposium de Baie-Saint-Paul and it featured eight painters from Charlevoix who expressed, on huge canvasses, their own view of Charlevoix. Vladimir, perched on a scaffolding which he regularly came down from to draw on his pipe and talk with people - one thing he has always enjoyed doing - painted for the occasion, on a canvas 8 feet by 12 feet (2,4 m x 3,6 m), a winter scene from the Charlevoix village of Petite-Rivière-Saint-François.
